The Sebastopol Hills are located southwest of the town of Sebastopol. The location is incredible with a steep 800 foot elevation gain and the famed Goldridge soil series throughout every vineyard. The area is about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean and about 10 miles north of the windy Petaluma Gap, so fog and cold wind dominate the growing season.
These vineyards are always several weeks behind our vineyards in the Santa Rosa Plains. Red fruit grown here usually shows a dark and spicy profile and white wines like Chardonnay and Pinot Gris show ripe apple and melon.
The Petaluma Gap is an up and coming winegrowing area known for its extreme cold growing conditions.
It gets its name from the fog and wind that roll unobstructed through the gap in the coastal range that separates the rest of the Russian River Valley from the Pacific Ocean.
Without the protection from the hills, fog and wind roll miles inland completely unobstructed. These locations are the first to fill up with fog and the last place where the fog subsides.
Balletto farms 6 vineyards that are located in or adjacent to the Santa Rosa Plains, several miles west of the city of Santa Rosa. The land here has slight rolling hills and because if its low-lying elevation, these vineyards are the last to have the morning fog burn off and receive sunlight.
Unlike our other vineyards in the hills, these vineyards have incredibly diverse soils that range from heavier clays to lighter sands. In general, the resulting wines are bright, red-fruit focused for reds and tropical, stone-fruit focused for our whites. They have softer tannins and higher acidity.

All of our estate vineyards are located in the coolest, southern most tip of the Russian River Valley where a ceaseless ebb and flow of Pacific Ocean fog makes for a dynamic and incredible location to grow wine.
